A home for the things I think are worthy of sharing. Will largely be photography based.

Chris Hondros – another conflict photographer film

Hondros

Come across this and thought I’d share.

Seems Chris Hondros was injured/killed in the same incident as Tim Hetherington. Wiki says he was a finalist for a Pulitzer on two occasions.

Just the trailer so far – so hard to tell how good/bad it might be.

Interesting tech, innovation, maker video

99u

Less about photography and more about tech this one.

For last couple of years I’ve thought about playing around with ardunio tech, wanting to make something both technical and creative. In parallel I’ve also wondered about some day pushing something like this beyond the point of just messing around or doing for fun – i.e. launching into a wider audience by starting a company or similar.

Just come across this video which is really interesting on many of those aspects plus maker community, open source etc – and thought I’d share.

999u.com seems really interesting – will follow their video feed.

The Art of Photography : Mick Rock Interview

MickRock

The Art of Photography is a Video Blog by Ted Forbes I occasionally watch during my lunch hour. It’s usually a decent length – 20min or so and often covers a review of prominent photographer’s work – however it does sometimes cover other aspects of photography e.g. issues with signing contracts. Worth adding to your feeds if you do such things (I use feedly after Google Reader was stopped) or checking occasionally otherwise.

Just looked after not watching for a while and noticed there is an interview with Mick Rock. One of the most significant names in Music Photography and possibly THE name in terms of 70’s Rock. Work (an image library) have some dealings with him and my recent coverage of music gigs peaked my interest in it, and then thought I’d share.

Part of me wonders what it would have been like to be a photographer then – especially since I’ve loved and at one time had a big passion for that kind of music (was a massive Hendrix fan). Certainly – much more skill was required with film and as such I’m assuming there would have been much fewer photographers and so possibilities of back stage access or hanging out with the musicians more likely. I’ve been to gigs where there are 20+ photographers in the pit. I’m sure because of this we are kept in our place with stricter limits. But then befriending a musician that becomes “big” might just be a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

Grunge & 90s Style Mags : Video

Street

Been a while since I blogged anything – mostly as I’ve not had the time – covered (photography) a couple of London Music festivals and have other editing I’m way behind on. Will likely post some of these in time.

During my lunchtimes I often read photography (or related) blogs, news feeds and such like which sometimes include videos. One that’s not usually photography related (iD Magazine YouTube upload feed) has recently featured a video which covers photography and fashion of the 90s Grunge scene. Thought I’d share.

It’s part of a series on UK youth culture:

Another Inspiration video

Dream

I do like my inspirational videos and enjoy sharing them.Well here’s another.

I usually prefer videos which aren’t so targeted i.e. not about inspiration itself but about other people doing what they do, and doing it well sometimes in the face of adversity – but this is a direct one. However if you look at the creators other videos – you see there is a creative pattern there too.

Originally found on Zack Arias’ Dedpxl blog, from the series The Society of Good Stuff – by Meghan Arias. Specific post has several inspirational inspired items.

Video : Forensic Photography

Forensic

Came across this interesting video about Forensic Photography on the Vimeo Staff picks feed. Thought I’d share.

Fascinating stuff – but don’t think it would be for me – I much prefer photographing people. The little challenges would inspire me though I think.

Inspiration: Honey shoot

Honey

Links to the honey shoot from Blake Little has been doing the rounds a fair bit on social media. He has a book of them : Preservation.

At the time it struck me as such a simple yet clever idea. Although there are of course logistics to consider like buying and controlling honey, different models etc – ultimately it’s simple and beautiful. The kind of thing where I think “Oh – wish I would have done that”.
I keep wanting to do more creative shoots but the impending organisation usually stops me or to be correct – I don’t event start. I just need to commit some time and just do it.

Recently came across a BTS video of the series and thought I’d blog it tagged as Inspiration.
